The Sony Play Station has always been a very popular choice for gamers everywhere in the world. The newest addition to the Play Station family is the Sony Play Station 3, a video game system that has been eagerly anticipated by video game lovers everywhere. This Playstation 2 hit stores in Japan on November 11, 2006 and debuted in North America on November 17, 2006. Europe and Australia will have to wait until March 2007 to get their hands on one of these systems! The buzz regarding this game system reached a fever pitch prior to release and lines to purchase it were very long on opening sales day. Consumers anxiously waited their chance to grab up one or more of these video game systems for themselves or for holiday gift giving.

The PlayStation 3, trademarked PLAYSTATION 3, commonly abbreviated PS3, is Sony's seventh generation video game console and the third in the PlayStation series. It is the successor to PlayStation and PlayStation 2 and competes with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii. So what's the big deal with the PS 3?At first look you will see that this system is compact, sleek and black. There are two different configurations available, 1) 20GB of storage and 2) 60GB of storage. Although the two configurations operate in much the same way there are some \ differences. The 20GB configuration does not come with Wi-Fi built in or a memory card included, while the 60GB configuration includes both of these items. Both configurations are compatible with wireless controllers in addition to the traditional wired controllers.

One of the neat things is that not only will you be able to play PS 3 games, but this system has total backwards compatibility. This means that you can also play earlier PlayStation games as well! There is an enormous number of games that can be played. Whether you like racing games, fighting games, games for kids or other types of games you will be able to find what you are looking for offered from Sony. You can even play the games for this system online. Everything you need to do play online comes with your purchase of the PS 3. The basic online package is free and there are some upgrades available for a fee.

Games aren the only thing that can be played on the amazing PS 3. This system can play DVD movies and audio CDs as well. For the 20GB configuration the retail price is $499. For the more advanced 60GB configuration the price is $599. With the more expensive model you extras like a Memory Stick, SD and Compact Flash slots, Wi-Fi and a larger hard disk drive. For only a $100 difference it makes more sense to buy the 60GB model. Regardless of which one you choose, you will love the Sony Play Station 3!
